How to calibrate the Voltage on ToolKit Rc chargers

How to calibrate the Voltage on ToolKit Rc chargers

The toolkit RC chargers pack alot of features and functionality at great prices, but we have found that many of them are not properly calibrated out of the box.  This results in your lipos being under-charged.  This guide applies to all of the ToolKit RC battery chargers.

You will also need to perform a voltage calibration after a firmware update

When calibrating your ToolKit RC charger, please make sure you are using a decent quality and accurate volt meter, incorrectly calibrating the charger could result in your batteries being over charged which can damage them, or worse.

How to verify if the charger is correctly or incorrectly calibrated

There are two ways to check the battery charger.  The first being:
  1. Plug the battery into the toolkit balance charger and record what voltages each cell are.
  2. Measure each cell of your battery using your voltmeter (a lipo checker can work, but these are not always the most accurate) and compare.  They could be out by around 0.1-0,2V, this is acceptable, but if they are out by more then you should perform a calibration.
The alternative way to test is to:
  1. Balance charge your lipo battery according to the manufacturer instructions
  2. Measure the voltage of each cell in your battery using a high quality volt meter (a lipo checker can work, but these are not always the most accurate), they should be very close to 4.2V each when fully charged.
  3. If the measured voltage (using a volt meter) of your battery is not within 0.1-0.2V of 4.2V , then you will need to calibrate your charger.

How to perform a Voltage calibration on ToolKit RC chargers

  1. With the charger turned off, press and hold the scroll wheel button while powering on the charger.  It will enter voltage calibration mode.
  2. Select the "Defaults" option on the menu.
  3. Grab a battery and record the actual voltage of each cell (using your Volt Meter).
  4. Plug in that battery into the balance port of the charger.
  5. For each cell, adjust the voltage divider so that the charger shows the correct voltage for each cell.
  6. Now plug in the main battery lead (XT60/XT30 connector) into the output port of the charger, and repeat the process for the output port calibration.
  7. Save the calibration and you are done.  The charger will now show the correct voltage.
